Blackface Drops Bombshell: Accuses Asake of Song Theft for Hit Single 'Joha'

Blackface Accuses Asake of Song Theft: 'Joha' Derived from 'Ikebe Supper'

Blackface, a prominent figure in Afrobeats, has made a startling claim against rising star Asake. In an interview with Naija FM, Blackface alleged that Asake copied his song 'Ikebe Supper' for the hit single 'Joha' from Asake's debut album 'Joha,' released in 2022.

Expressing his dismay at the unauthorized use of his music, Blackface likened it to the violation of a child. He also shed light on the decision to use the name 'Platainshun Boiz' instead of his own during his writing collaboration, emphasizing the desire for unity within the group.

One key point of contention in Blackface's claim is the use of the phrase "Ikebe Supper," which Asake incorporated into 'Joha.' However, it is important to note that the two songs differ in terms of progression, beat pattern, and melody.

It is worth mentioning that the original version of 'Joha' was recorded around 2014, during Asake's time as an undergraduate at Obafemi Awolowo University. The version released in 2022 is a remake of the earlier recording.

This accusation adds to Blackface's history of copyright infringement claims against various artists. The controversy surrounding the iconic track 'African Queen,' originally performed by Blackface's former Plantainshun Boiz bandmate, 2baba, is another example of his ongoing battles in the music industry.

Asake has yet to respond to these allegations, leaving fans and industry observers eagerly awaiting further developments in this contentious dispute.
