Prophet and Boyfriend Sentenced to Death for Gruesome Murder of LASU Student in Ritual Killing Case

Justice was delivered in a shocking and disturbing case involving the gruesome murder of a Lagos State University (LASU) final-year student, Favour Daley-Oladele. The culprits, Prophet Philip Segun and Owolabi Adeeko, the victim's boyfriend, were sentenced to death by hanging for their involvement in the heinous crime. Additionally, Owolabi's mother, Bola Adeeko, was convicted for her role in the incident, which included the consumption of human flesh, and was sentenced to two years in prison.

The court heard that Owolabi Adeeko, 23, lured Favour Daley-Oladele from Lagos to Ikire under false pretenses, claiming she would be visiting his uncle. However, this was a ploy orchestrated by Owolabi, his mother, and Prophet Segun to use Favour for a money ritual. Tragically, Favour was killed on the church premises, where Owolabi struck her on the head with a pestle. Her organs were used for ritual purposes, and her body was buried in a shallow grave outside the church on December 8, 2019.

The defendants were arrested, and they confessed to the crime, leading to the discovery of Favour's body by the police a few weeks later. The trial, which began on November 15, 2021, saw the prosecution team, led by Mrs. Adekemi Bello from the Ministry of Justice, present nine witnesses and various exhibits, successfully proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

In her judgement, Justice Christiana Obadina found Prophet Philip Segun and Owolabi Adeeko guilty of murder and conspiracy, while Bola Adeeko was convicted for the consumption of human flesh, which is illegal. The court, after considering the allocutor plea from the defence counsel, sentenced Prophet Philip Segun and Owolabi Adeeko to death by hanging for murder and 14 years imprisonment for conspiracy. Bola Adeeko received a two-year prison sentence for the consumption of human flesh.

It should be noted that during the course of the investigation, Owolabi had previously confessed to using his girlfriend's body to prepare a ritual meal called "victory soup," which he and his mother consumed.

The verdict brings closure to the tragic case of Favour Daley-Oladele's murder, as justice has been served with the convictions and sentences handed down by the court.
