Delta State residents in Utagba-Uno, Ndokwa-West Local Government Area, are urging the state's Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, to prioritize infrastructure development and other indices of progress. The call was made during a courtesy visit by a 21-man delegation, led by Rear Admiral Mike Onah (retd.), at the government house in Asaba.


Represented by Dr. Agaga Akpati and Onotu Emegwali, Onah expressed confidence in the abilities of Deputy Governor Onyeme and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to bring development to all areas of the state. He emphasized that Utagba-Uno, despite its abundant resources, has been neglected by previous successive governments, leading to a lack of meaningful development in the area.


The residents urged the state government to prioritize several critical projects in Utagba-Uno. They called for the construction of the Onitcha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, the electrification of Utagba-Uno, upgrading of the Utagba-Uno Health Centres to Cottage Hospitals, and the provision of proper drainage systems to control floods in Etua, Umusam, Umuseti, and other areas.


In response, Deputy Governor Onyeme assured the residents that their concerns would be addressed. He acknowledged the importance of road networks and pledged that the government would prioritize the construction of roads in Utagba-Uno and other areas in the Ukwuani nation, considering the lack of sufficient roads in the entire Ndokwa nation.


Regarding the issue of flooding, Onyeme acknowledged it as a natural disaster resulting from environmental degradation. He urged people to clear and clean their surroundings to minimize its impact. Additionally, he assured the delegation that the state government would look into providing drainages for already constructed streets and future ones when the budget is prepared.


The residents' call for infrastructure development is a crucial step in improving the quality of life and fostering economic growth in Utagba-Uno and Delta State as a whole. By addressing the pressing infrastructure needs, the state government can create a more conducive environment for its citizens and attract investments to drive development and progress in the region.
