Outrage as Two Killed by Stray Bullets During NDLEA Raid in Lagos

Yusuf and Chairman, NDLEA, Buba Marwa

Tensions run high in the Idioro area of Mushin, Lagos State, as two individuals, including Gafar Yusuf, lost their lives during a raid conducted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a drug den. The tragic incident occurred when the NDLEA operatives opened fire sporadically in a residential area while attempting to seize illicit drugs.

Residents in the community expressed their anger and grief over the unnecessary use of force by the operatives. According to witnesses, the raid took place around 10 PM on Wednesday and involved around 50 armed operatives, some of whom wore official uniforms while others were in casual attire.

The raid triggered a confrontation with those involved in the drug business, leading the NDLEA operatives to shoot indiscriminately to disperse the crowd. Unfortunately, the stray bullets hit Gafar Yusuf and another yet-to-be-identified victim, causing their immediate deaths.

Video footage of the incident showed people running in panic during the raid, while residents mourned the loss of the victims on the road where their lifeless bodies lay. Bloodstains were visible on the ground, adding to the anger and frustration of the community.

The residents questioned the NDLEA's approach, emphasizing that the use of lethal force in a residential neighborhood was unjustified. They criticized the lack of a clear target and plan for arresting suspects without resorting to reckless shooting.

As of now, the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, has not responded to calls or messages seeking clarification on the incident. The community remains in a state of distress, seeking answers and accountability for the tragic loss of life caused by the agency's actions during the raid.
