Police Arrest Suspects in Anambra Kidnappers' Hideout Raid

The police in Anambra State have conducted a successful raid on the hideout of a notorious kidnap gang operating in the Anam axis of the Anambra West Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of two of the gang members.

The arrested suspects were allegedly involved in a recent kidnapping incident in Aguleri, Anambra East, on June 26. They had kidnapped a victim and demanded a ransom of N4.5 million from the victim's family for his release. The family paid the ransom, but the victim's car was not returned.

Police made the breakthrough when one of the suspects went to Agulu in Anaocha area of the state to find a buyer for the stolen vehicle, a black Mercedes Benz GLK SUV with registration number BLF 746 EA.

Upon receiving information about the suspect's activities, police detectives swiftly apprehended him in Agulu. During questioning, the suspect confessed to being a member of the kidnap gang and revealed that he had been sent from their hideout to sell the car.

Following the arrest, the case was transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit in Awkuzu on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye. The unit subsequently pursued other members of the gang, leading to the arrest of another member named Ejeka Ufuo, aged 23. Ufuo believed the vehicle had been sold and came to collect the proceeds, but he was also apprehended by the police.

In a separate operation, the police successfully arrested three members of an armed syndicate that specifically targeted Dangote trailers plying the highways in the state. Acting on a tip-off, the police stormed the hideout of the syndicate at Nnokwa and apprehended the suspects, who were in the process of vandalizing two trailers. While the head of one of the vandalized trailers was recovered, the whereabouts of the other trailer are yet to be ascertained.

The police in Anambra State are determined to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents and travelers on the highways. These recent arrests demonstrate their commitment to apprehending criminals and dismantling dangerous criminal networks operating in the state.
