President Tinubu Submits Ministerial Nominees List, Includes Wike, El-Rufai, and Oyetola
President Bola Tinubu has revealed his list of ministerial nominees, which includes former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, and Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others. The ministerial list was submitted to the Senate shortly before the constitutional deadline as amended by the ninth Assembly, giving the President only two days to finalize his cabinet selections.
According to the 1999 constitution as amended, the nomination of ministerial candidates for Senate confirmation should be done within 60 days after the President takes the oath of office. The constitution also mandates that at least 10% of appointed ministers must be women, and there should be representation from each of the 36 states in the federation.
The authentic ministerial list was announced by the media aide to the Senate President, Jackson Udom, who urged Nigerians to avoid speculation and wait for the official unveiling of the nominees. The list includes notable figures such as economist Olawale Edun, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Adebayo Adelabu, and the women leader of the All Progressives Congress Betta Edu.
However, the President forwarded the names without specifying their portfolios. The delayed announcement of the cabinet ministers has led to various speculations and lists circulating on social media, which the government has disowned. Concerns have been raised over the delay, considering President Tinubu's promises of competent governance and a government of national competence.
