APC Crisis: Oyetola and Ex-Senate Spokesperson Basiru Likely Candidates to Replace Omisore
There are indications that either former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, or the spokesperson for the ninth Senate, Ajibola Basiru, may replace Senator Iyiola Omisore as the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recently, Oyetola visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja and had a closed-door meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, as President Bola Tinubu was attending another event. While there were rumors that Oyetola was initially unwilling to consider the offer due to his governorship ambition in 2026, he was persuaded to accept it.
This development followed the news that APC governors and Tinubu had settled for former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu as APC national chairman. Both Adamu and Omisore had earlier resigned from their positions.
However, the consideration of Ganduje for the national chairman position has raised concerns about the party's zoning arrangement. APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Lukman, expressed opposition to the potential move, stating that it could be seen as insensitive and might upset the party's balance.
As the APC navigates through its internal challenges, the potential replacements for key positions are generating significant interest and speculation within the party.
